This 42 km track is usually walked in 3-4 days.

  Atene Skyline Track and Viewpoint Walk
The Skyline Track takes 6-8 hours and the Viewpoint Walk 2 hours.
The Skyline Track takes you into the Whanganui National Park and gives great views of the Whanganui River.

Visit scenic spots en route to Pipiriki, the heart of the Whanganui National Park: Operiki Gardens, the Jerusalem Convent, the Kawana Flour Mill, various Marae, and the Morikaunui Station. See New Zealands bush forest and amazing scenery. Hear commentary on the historic features of life on the Whanganui River.

The Whanganui River Road Mail Tour will also deliver and pick up canoe parties to any part of the river, deliver trampers to on and off points on the Matemateaonga Track and link up with jet-boat trips from Pipiriki to the Drop Scene and Bridge to Nowhere.

Canoe the Whanganui River

Travel the Whanganui River Road with Whanganui Tours Mail Coach to Pipiriki, then canoe down. Canoe the river where early maori and european settlers travelled. A fun, safe canoeing experience through stunning native bush.

For your safety and enjoyment you will be accompanied on the river by one of our experienced river guides.

With a 7.30am pick up from your Wanganui accommodation we will travel through the historic Whanganui River Valley to Pipiriki where your fun canoeing experience begins.

Canoe down from Pipiriki with easy to follow instructions.

On completion of your canoe trip the Whanganui River Road Mail Coach will meet you and return to Wanganui.

Canoe Party Transport:
We will transport your party and canoes to any pick and drop off points between Wanganui and Taumaranui. Prices on application.
